Tags are the taxonomies that mark the subject matter of a post. The Tags metabox used on EurActiv is an extension of the default WordPress tags box; information on the behavior of the tag boxes can be found in the online documentation.
IMPORTANT: Do not create hybrid taxonomies. For example, the location “Berlin, Germany” should not exist, there should be two locations, one “Berlin” and one “Germany”.
EurActiv uses tags for three purposes:
- Building the “Related Content” boxes at the bottom of each post
- Generating rich subject matter pages; for example, the “People” tags now display both articles about a person and that person’s EurActory profile if one exists.
- Search Engine Optimization: tags are an easy way to build a rich internal link structure.
